All Frequently Asked Questions

Legacy Fire Helmets combine traditional craftsmanship with modern safety technology. While many brands focus solely on either tradition or technology, we excel at both. Our helmets meet or exceed all NFPA 1971 standards while offering superior customization options and handcrafted quality that mass-produced helmets can't match.

We provide a detailed sizing guide with measurement instructions on our product pages. For the most accurate fit, measure the circumference of your head approximately 1 inch above your eyebrows. If you're between sizes or unsure, our customer service team can help you determine the best fit.

We offer extensive customization including: choice of materials (leather or composite), department colors, painted finishes, engraved shields and insignias, personalized identification (name, rank, badge number), accessory mounts, and integrated communication systems. For department orders, we can match specific color codes and create custom insignias.

Standard customization takes 2-3 weeks from order confirmation. Complex designs or department bulk orders may take 4-6 weeks. Rush options are available for an additional fee (contact us for details). We never rush craftsmanship, so we maintain quality while working as efficiently as possible.

Changes can be made within 48 hours of placing your order without penalty. After that, changes may be possible but could incur additional fees and delay production. Once production has begun (usually 3-5 business days after order), changes cannot be made. We'll confirm all details with you before production begins.

Standard shipping is 5-7 business days within the continental US. Expedited options (2-3 business days) and overnight shipping are available. International shipping times vary by destination (typically 10-21 business days). All helmets are shipped with insurance and tracking. Custom orders ship after the production time mentioned above.

Standard (non-custom) helmets may be returned within 30 days in original condition for a full refund (minus shipping). Custom helmets cannot be returned unless defective. Exchanges are available for sizing issues within 30 days. Defective products are replaced at no cost. Please contact our customer service to initiate any return or exchange.

Yes, we offer tiered pricing for department orders. Discounts start at 10% for orders of 5+ helmets and increase with quantity. We also offer flexible payment plans for large orders. Contact our sales team for a custom quote tailored to your department's specific needs and budget.

All Legacy Fire Helmets meet or exceed NFPA 1971 (2020 edition) standards for structural firefighting helmets. They are tested for impact resistance, penetration resistance, heat and flame resistance, and electrical insulation. Certification documents are available upon request for department procurement purposes.

Yes, all our helmet models undergo rigorous third-party testing at accredited laboratories to verify NFPA 1971 compliance. We maintain complete testing documentation for each helmet model, which we provide to fire departments during the procurement process. We also conduct additional quality testing beyond NFPA requirements.

With proper care, our helmets have a service life of 10+ years. However, NFPA recommends inspection after any significant impact and replacement if damage is detected. Regular inspection should be performed according to your department's SOPs. We recommend complete replacement after 10 years of service regardless of visible condition due to material degradation over time.

For leather helmets: Clean with mild soap and water, condition with leather conditioner every 6 months. For composite helmets: Clean with mild soap and water, avoid harsh chemicals. Both types: Inspect regularly for cracks, discoloration, or damage; store away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures; never use abrasives or pressure washers.

Yes, we offer repair services for most types of damage. We can replace shields, liners, suspension systems, and make certain structural repairs. However, helmets that have sustained significant impact or heat damage should be replaced rather than repaired for safety reasons. Contact us with photos of the damage for a repair assessment.

Yes, we sell replacement parts including shields, liners, suspension systems, chin straps, and most accessories. Many parts are available for purchase through our website.
