Cairns G5A New Yorker Leather Presentation Helmet
$1,150.00
Description
Since 1836, Cairns & Brother has been the original manufacturer of leather firefighting helmets.
The Cairns G5A has retained the same authentic look and quality that generation after generation of firefighters have relied on. Original style brass front holder with the impressive brim details. Helmet is standard with stainless steel D-ring. Helmet insides feature a four way suspension system and liner without earflaps. This is similar to the older Model 5A worn years ago and still being worn by the “Old Timers.”
Lightweight and comfortable fit are the hallmark of this most desirable presentation helmet. With a lower dome and longer rear brim than today’s leather firefighting helmets, the G5A is like the helmet your father wore. Not recommended for firefighting! This helmet is not OSHA or NFPA compliant.
- Medium: 7 1/8 – 7 1/2
- Large: 7 5/8 – 8 3/8
- “6” Leather Fronts are sold separately.
Note: Front pins for leather fronts are not included. This helmet comes with helmet trim. Trim not pictured in photos.

Maria Rodriguez –
Our department switched to the Guardian Pro last year, and it’s been a game-changer for interior attack. At 28 ounces, it’s significantly lighter than our old helmets, which reduces neck strain during long operations. The improved peripheral vision has actually helped me spot victims I might have missed before. The integrated communication system mount works perfectly with our department radios. My only minor complaint is that the ratcheting system can be tricky with gloved hands during the initial adjustment period. After six months of wildfires and structure fires, mine shows minimal wear. The heat resistance is impressive—I’ve been in extreme conditions where other helmets would have shown damage.

“Great concept with room for improvement”
The integrated eye protection system is brilliant in theory and mostly works well in practice. The flip-down visor provides excellent protection against chemicals, debris, and heat without fogging up like separate goggles often do. The mechanism is smooth and works with gloved hands. The helmet itself is top-quality—comfortable, durable, and well-balanced. I’m giving 4 stars because the visor occasionally doesn’t lock securely in the up position during rapid movement, and replacement visors are more expensive than standard goggles. However, for HazMat operations where we’re already wearing full facepieces, this system is superior to separate eye protection. After 8 months on the HazMat team, it’s proven reliable for our specific needs.
